Support to Preparation of Project Preparation Report for Madhya Pradesh Inclusive Tourism Development

Project Overview

Madhya Pradesh government has been taking a number of specific actions to enhance the tourism sector. In 2010, its Department of Tourism (DoT) developed a new Tourism Policy, further refined in 2014, which explores new tourism markets, continuous improvements in basic infrastructure, tourism-related tax exemptions, and the economic viability of adapting heritage buildings as hotels.

The overall components of the project consist of Tourism Governance and Institutional Strengthening, Historic Cities “Hubs” Revitalization, Tourist Sites “Spoke” and Community Development & Program Management. The project is expected to unlock the untapped potential of Madhya Pradesh’s diverse natural and cultural assets to reduce poverty through the creation of services-oriented jobs and skills as well as improving the living conditions of communities near some of its main tourist sites and monuments.
