IHS is an international center of excellence at the School of Economics (ESE) and the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) of the Erasmus University Rotterdam, The Netherlands, operating on a global scale by offering post graduate education, training, advisory services and applied research in urban management, housing and urban environment.

Over 8,000 participants have attended IHS courses. IHS alumni include ministers, mayors, successful businessmen, university lecturers and renowned NGO activists.

Additionally, IHS works on a global scale providing advisory services to local and national governments, non-governmental and civil society organizations, as well as academic and training institutions. IHS has worked on contract for the World Bank, UN-HABITAT, UNDP, the Asian Development Bank, African Development Bank, SIDA, the EU, GIZ, and Cordaid in over 60 countries. IHS has been involved in training, research and advisory services in India for three decades in partnership with HUDCO and other institutions.
